A Festus-area man has been accused of sexually assaulting a girl more than 100 times over a five-year period. The alleged crimes began when the girl was younger than 14 years old, court records said.
Johnny L. Duwe, 44, on April 30 was charged with statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy of someone younger than 14 and first-degree rape or attempted rape, both unclassified felonies; two counts of second-degree rape, class D felonies; and four other class E felonies, according to court documents.
The two unclassified charges are both punishable by five years to life in prison, and the class D felonies each carry a penalty of up to seven years in prison. Each of the class E felonies is punishable by up to four years in prison.
Duwe was arrested on April 29. As of May 1, he was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court records show.
According to the case’s probable-cause statement filed by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Duwe allegedly sexually assaulted the girl between February 2020 and April 28.
Duwe has a military background and has been a firearms instructor. Investigators allegedly found several firearms and bomb-making materials, including grenades, at his home, the report said.
Duwe also is wanted on an active felony warrant in Ohio for a charge of armed criminal action that was filed in 2018, the probable-cause statement said.
Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Shannon O’Neal is prosecuting the case.
