De Soto-area man allegedly attacks child, deputy

Ronald Kruse

Ronald Benincasa Kruse, 33, who lives south of De Soto, allegedly assaulted a child and kicked a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy while attempting to run after being arrested, according to court documents.

Kruse on June 3 was charged with felony counts of abuse or neglect of a child and attempted escape from custody as well as a misdemeanor count of fourth-degree assault. As of June 4, he was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court and jail records show.

According to a probable-cause statement filed by the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called on June 2 after Kruse became angry at a child for crying. The child is younger than 18.

Kruse yelled at the child and chased him out of a bedroom in the home. He then allegedly grabbed the child by the throat and lifted the boy before putting the boy on a pile of laundry while still choking him, the report said.

Deputies arrested Kruse at the home, and he was handcuffed and placed in the front passenger’s seat of a deputy’s cruiser. Kruse became upset when he was told he was being transported to jail, and he broke the lock on the cruiser’s door and unbuckled himself, according to the reports.

Two deputies attempted to put Kruse back into the cruiser, but he pulled away from them and started to run away. The deputies tackled Kruse, and while one of the deputies attempted to place a hobble restraint on his legs, Kruse kicked the deputy, the report said.
