An altercation between former neighbors in Eureka led to one man being arrested for allegedly threatening another man with either a spear or walking stick. The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. July 30 in the 400 block of Hill Drive Court, Eureka Police report.
The dispute reportedly started when a 40-year-old man, who recently moved to St. Clair, couldn’t locate some items in the backyard at his former Eureka home and went to his 66-year-old neighbor’s home to ask if he knew what happened to them. The 66-year-old neighbor accused the 40-year-old of saying bad things about him and then the older man started cursing and told the younger man to leave his home, the report said.
When the 40-year-old refused to leave, the 66-year-old allegedly grabbed a spear or walking stick, according to witnesses, and lowered it toward the younger man until he left the home.
The 40-year-old man and his son told police the neighbor pointed a five-inch long wooden spear with a two-inch metal spearhead at him, but the 66-year-old and his girlfriend told police it was a wooden walking stick and not a spear, according to the report.
The 66-year-old Eureka man was issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for assault.
