De Soto Police believe the recent theft of a pickup and trailer from outside a home in the 100 block of Easton Street and the attempted theft of another pickup from K’s Equipment, 12727 Hwy. 21, are related. Together, the stolen items from the home, which included a gun left in the pickup, were valued at $16,500, and the damage to the pickup at the business was estimated at $400, police reported.
A 62-year-old De Soto man told police his 2003 Ford F-250 pickup and 1996 Rett trailer were stolen between 11 p.m. Aug. 29 and 9:30 a.m. Aug. 30 from his home on Easton Street. The victim said his vehicle was locked and he still had both sets of its keys. A .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver was left in the pickup, the report said.
Also on Aug. 30, De Soto Police got a report about damage to the ignition and steering column of a 2001 Ford pickup at K’s Equipment. That incident is believed to have occurred between 2 p.m. Aug. 28 and 9 a.m. Aug. 30, according to the report.
“It is logical to believe these two incidents are related,” Capt. Jeffrey Wynn said.
He said Aug. 31 that no arrests had been made and none of the stolen items had been recovered.
