A De Soto man was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail on Tuesday (March 18) on burglary and sexual assault charges, De Soto Police reported.

Kevin DeWayne Recar, 43, has been charged with the class B felony of first-degree burglary and the class C felony of second-degree sodomy, both in connection with a March 14 incident. If convicted, he faces maximum penalties of 15 years in prison for the burglary charge and seven years in prison and a fine up to $5,000 for the sodomy charge.

The De Soto Police Department received a call around 11:15 p.m. about a burglary in progress at a home.

According to the probable-cause statement, Recar entered a 36-year-old woman’s residence without permission through an unlocked door. Police say after Recar took a shower, he got into bed with the alleged victim, who had been asleep, and began kissing and caressing her.

The woman awoke while Recar attempted to have sexual relations with her, police reported.

She said she knew the suspect, who she said was the friend of a mutual acquaintance, and gave his name to officers, police reported.

Police located Recar at 1 a.m. March 15 while he was walking in an alley near Main and Kelley streets. He was arrested without incident, they said.
