A 23-year-old De Soto man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated and other alleged offenses after officers tracked him down to the Denny’s restaurant in Arnold on March 31, Arnold Police reported.
At about 12:20 a.m. that day, the man was driving a 2015 Toyota Corolla north on I-55, and when he attempted to exit at Richardson Road, he allegedly drove onto a grass median. He continued to drive, even though the back bumper of his car had fallen off. The bumper still had a license plate attached to it, allowing police to identify who the car belonged to, the report said.
Officers were able to track the Corolla to the restaurant, 1203 Drury Lane. The car was missing its back bumper and the back window was covered in mud, according to the report.
The man was found inside the restaurant, and he appeared to be intoxicated and had the keys to the car. He was with his girlfriend, a 22-year-old Imperial woman who told police he was making statements about harming himself, the report said.
The man was arrested and transported to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County for evaluation.
He also was issued summonses to Arnold Municipal Court for suspicion of DWI, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to drive in a single lane, driving without insurance, and careless and imprudent driving, Lt. Clinton Wooldridge said.
