man in handcuffs

A 39-year-old De Soto man was arrested for allegedly breaking into a home in the 3600 block of Flucom Road west of De Soto and firing a gun several times inside the home. No one was home at the time, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The homeowner called the Sheriff’s Office after he returned home and found the front door kicked in and several bullet holes throughout the house. Then, the homeowner said he called 911 after finding a strange man tearing at a wall in a bedroom closet, the report said.

Deputies arrived at the home and found the suspect still inside the closet, and he refused to come out. When a deputy attempted to pull him out of the closet, the suspect allegedly hit the officer with a clothes rod, according to the report.

The deputy subdued the man with a stun gun, and the suspect was taken to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City for evaluation. After being evaluated, the man was taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, where he was held for 24 hours before being released pending application for warrants, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Deputies allegedly found a gun in the bedroom where the suspect was found. The homeowner told investigators he did not know the suspect, the report said.

The Sheriff’s Office will seek charges against the suspect through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for burglary and aggravated assault, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.
