This mobile home on Sunrise School Road south of De Soto was destroyed by fire.

A June 21 blaze destroyed a mobile home in the 4400 block of Sunrise School Road south of De Soto, displacing the people who live there, said Tom Fitzgerald, assistant chief for the De Soto Rural Fire Protection District.

Fitzgerald said some people were in the home when it caught fire, although he didn’t know how many. He also said all the people got out safely, but a pet died.

De Soto Rural Fire got a call around 9:50 p.m. about the blaze, Fitzgerald said.

“It was heavily involved when (firefighters) arrived,” he said. “It looks like a total loss.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Fitzgerald said June 25, Fitzgerald said.

Firefighters remained on the scene for about four hours, he said.

The De Soto, R-7, Hematite, Hillsboro, Crystal City, Cedar Hill, Big River and Potosi fire departments and districts helped with the call, as did the Valle Ambulance District.

“I think the heat and humidity required extra people,” Fitzgerald said.
