Quentin Malachi Christopher, 21, who lives in the De Soto area, allegedly stole items from vehicles on Tracy Lane northeast of De Soto. One of the vehicles was parked in a garage, and the family was home during the alleged burglary, according to court documents.
Christopher on Feb. 3 was charged with felony first-degree burglary and two counts of misdemeanor stealing. He was arrested on Feb. 8, and as of Feb. 13, he was being held on a $25,000 bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court and jail records show.
The case’s probable-cause statement said Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called on June 4 to the 200 block of Tracy Lane after numerous vehicles had been rummaged through. A pair of Oakley sunglasses and a 113 Ranger Skinner knife were stolen from two different vehicles. The sunglasses and knife were estimated to be worth a combined $275, the report said.
Surveillance video allegedly showed Christopher entering vehicles, including the one parked in a garage. He was identified by a deputy, who recognized Christopher due to his tattoos, according to the report.
When the deputy contacted Christopher, he was wearing similar pants to the ones seen in the surveillance video. Christopher also allegedly told the deputy he owned a red Nike bag that was seen in the surveillance video but had thrown it away, the report said.
Christopher allegedly told the detective that he did not remember going through vehicles because he was under the influence of drugs at the time. He also said he had seen the Oakley sunglasses in his house, but he didn’t buy them and the sunglasses “just showed up” in his home one day, according to the report.
Last month, he was charged with first-degree domestic assault; unlawful possession of a weapon; and armed criminal action, all felonies, for allegedly attacking and threatening to shoot a woman with whom he is in a relationship.
On Jan. 30, Christopher was released on a $1,000 bond from the Jefferson County Jail after being arrested on Jan. 18, according to court records.
