A De Soto-area man has been charged for allegedly threatening a woman with a hatchet. At the time of the incident, Stevens and the woman were in a relationship, court documents said.
According to court records, Travis J. Stevens, 52, has been charged with first-degree harassment, a class E felony punishable by up to four years in prison and armed criminal action, an unclassified felony punishable by a minimum of three years in prison.
He was arrested on the warrant on Jan. 10, and as of Tuesday, he was being held on a $5,000 bond in the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro.
A woman contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and reported that during a verbal dispute on Nov. 23, Stevens ran after her with a hatchet, so she locked herself in a residence. He allegedly struck the door two times with a hatchet and threatened to slit the woman’s throat, the probable-cause statement in the case said.
