A Eureka-area man was hit by a pickup while running away from a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was trying to arrest him on an active warrant, and following the accident, the deputy discovered the man was in possession of illegal drugs, according to court documents.

David James Bradshaw, 38, who lives in the Jefferson County portion of Eureka, on April 1 was standing in the median at the intersection of Hwys. 30 and MM in House Springs when a deputy attempted to arrest him on a warrant, according to the case’s probable-cause statement.

The deputy was escorting Bradshaw to a patrol vehicle, when Bradshaw allegedly fled from the deputy before being handcuffed. Bradshaw ran into the northbound lanes of Hwy. MM, where he was struck by a U-Haul pickup, the report said.

The deputy then arrested Bradshaw, and he allegedly found Bradshaw had a bag with 12 capsules. Bradshaw told the deputy the capsules contained fentanyl, according to the report.

The deputy then released Bradshaw to emergency medical service personnel, who transported Bradshaw to an area hospital, the report said

The capsules were tested by the Missouri State Highway Patrol on June 17-18, and the lab results showed the substance in the capsules tested positive for fentanyl, according to the report.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on June 27 charged Bradshaw with possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison; and resisting arrest, a class E felony that carries a penalty of up to four years in prison, court records show.

Bradshaw was already charged in March with second-degree burglary, a class D felony, and stealing, a class A misdemeanor that carries a penalty of up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,000, according to court documents.

According to that case’s probable-cause statement, Bradshaw allegedly entered an apartment through a window at about 2:30 p.m. Nov. 8, 2024, in the 10 block of Fiedler Court in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton. He then allegedly stole a 65-inch television, which was valued at $358.

Bradshaw was identified in a photo lineup, and he was allegedly seen in video surveillance at the apartment, the report said.

Bradshaw was booked on July 22 at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro. As of Monday, he was being held in jail on a $5,000 bond, court records said.
