Dasani Thomas

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged an Overland man for allegedly stealing a muscle car from the Sapaugh GM Country car dealership, 1435 McNutt St., in Herculaneum, court records show.

Dasani Zyshon Thomas, 23, has been charged with stealing an item valued at more than $25,000, a class C felony punishable by three to 10 years in prison. He was arrested on Nov. 7, and as of Monday, he was being held on a $20,000 bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, according to court documents.

Thomas and at least two other people on Oct. 26 traveled from St. Louis to the Herculaneum dealership, and he and another man allegedly broke into the business by cutting a padlock off the front gate, according to the case’s probable-cause statement filed by Herculaneum Police.

Thomas and the other man allegedly broke the sunroof of a 2022 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody, which is worth about $78,000. The other man disabled the car’s horn, and Dasani allegedly used a device to reprogram a key to start the car and drive away in it, the report said.

Thomas drove to his home in Overland, where he dismantled and altered the car by cutting and modifying the frame. He also put a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plate on the car that was registered to a legally owned vehicle, according to the report.

On Nov. 6, investigators executed a search warrant at the Overland home, where they found the car and arrested Thomas, the report said.

Thomas admitted to stealing and altering the car, according to the report.

As of Monday, no other suspects connected to the theft have been reported. Court records also do not show anyone else being charged in connection with the theft.

An email to Herculaneum Police was not answered as of Monday.
