Hillsboro man allegedly stole car

Daniel Hall

Daniel Scott Hall, 56, of Hillsboro has been accused of taking a car from a woman and then lying about where he left it for her to pick up. A Hillsboro Police officer recovered the car, according to court documents.

Hall has been charged with first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, a class D felony. However, the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is trying the case as a class C felony, punishable by three to 10 years in prison, due to Hall previously being convicted for at least two prior felonies, court records show.

Hall was arrested on Sept. 17, and as of Sept. 20, he was being held on a $10,000 bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court documents said.

Hall on April 8 took a 2015 Chevrolet Spark from a woman and didn’t return the car. He then lied about where he left the car for the woman to retrieve it, according to the case’s probable-cause statement.

The woman reported the car stolen on April 9, and a Hillsboro Police officer located Hall but not the vehicle. However, Hall called the Police Station later that day and told the officer where the Spark was located, the report said.

The officer found the car with the keys in the ignition, according to the report.

Court records show Hall has been found guilty of at least two prior felonies. He was found guilty of attempting to manufacture a controlled substance in April 2012 in Jefferson County, and he was found guilty of manufacturing a controlled substance in June 2016 in Franklin County.
