Cory Koenig

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged a Union man with two counts of forgery. The man allegedly cashed two counterfeit business checks at First Community Credit Unions inside Walmart stores in Arnold and High Ridge, according to court documents.

Cory Koenig, 40, was charged on Feb. 4 for the two class D felonies, which are punishable by up to seven years in prison. He was arrested on Tuesday, May 20, and he was released on a $1,000 bond on Wednesday, May 21, court records show.

According to the case’s probable-cause statement, Koenig cashed a check for $2,300.79 at 10:17 a.m. Aug. 29, 2024, at the bank’s Arnold location. He then cashed a different check for $2,500.71 at 10:54 a.m. the same day at the bank’s High Ridge location.

Koenig allegedly told investigators on Jan. 31 that he was given the checks by another man, and his job was to cash the checks. He said he was paid $500 for cashing the checks, the report said.

The report does not identify the businesses the checks were stolen from.
