Fire damages commercial vehicle working on sewer lines

Firefighters respond to a commercial vehicle fire Dec. 18 in Clover Lake Estates.

A commercial vehicle believed to be working on sewer lines in Clover Lake Estates in Cedar Hill caught on fire Dec. 18.

Cedar Hill Fire Protection District Chief Mick Fischer said the fire likely originated in the truck’s pump.

“The truck that caught fire hauls water and has a pump on it,” he said. “One of the neighbors told me she noticed a flame coming out of the truck and went and told the guys working. They tried putting it out with a fire extinguisher and called 911. With the high winds, the fire really took off.”

Cedar Hill Fire was dispatched to the neighborhood at 2:19 p.m. Fischer said the fire was put out and his crew back in service an hour later.

Fischer said the fire was ruled accidental. No one was injured because of the fire.

“Fortunately, there was a fire hydrant right there in the neighbor’s front yard,” Fischer said. “We knocked down the fire pretty quickly, but it did burn into the neighbor’s yard. That was the only damage to the neighbor’s property.”

High Ridge Fire Protection District, Big River Ambulance and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
