Imperial man charged with alleged statutory rape

Cody Haynes

Cody Allen Haynes, 27, of Imperial is accused of sexually assaulting a girl who was younger than 17 at the time. The alleged assault occurred between June 1 and Aug. 31, 2022, according to court documents.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Haynes with two counts of second-degree statutory rape, each one a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison, court records show.

Haynes was arrested on July 1, and as of July 23, he was being held on a $10,000 bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, according to court documents.

“I thank God daily for the presumption of innocence that our Constitution provides the accused,” Haynes’s lawyer, Michael David Lowry, said. “We can’t say a whole lot due to ongoing legal proceedings.”

According to the probable-cause statement in the case, the alleged victim was interviewed on Oct. 23, 2023, by St. Louis County Police Detective Amy Erwin. The girl told the detective the alleged sexual assault occurred in Jefferson County.

Haynes is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 4, court documents show.
