Christopher James Brayton, 31, has been accused of assaulting a woman two times over a three-day period in October at a home they share east of De Soto. He had previously been charged for allegedly attacking the woman in June, court records show.
Brayton was charged Nov. 9 with third-degree domestic assault, a class E felony punishable by up to four years in prison; and fourth-degree domestic assault, a class A misdemeanor that carries a penalty of up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,000. On July 15, he had been charged with two counts of third-degree domestic assault after an arrest in June, according to court documents.
Brayton was arrested Nov. 18, and as of Nov. 19, he was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court records said.
According to a probable-cause statement, Brayton allegedly tried to force the woman into a vehicle on Oct. 14 in the 3600 block of Upper Plattin Road. The woman refused to get in and walked away.
Brayton allegedly tripped the woman, and when she got up, he threw her down. He then allegedly choked her and threatened to kill her, the report said.
Brayton let the woman go when police arrived, according to the report.
The woman received an order of protection against Brayton on Oct. 15, which does not expire until Oct. 16, 2026. However, Brayton allegedly entered the home he had shared with the woman on Upper Plattin Road about 8 a.m. Oct. 16 and said to her, “I’m home,” a probable-cause statement said.
Brayton hid the woman’s phone and would not let her leave. He allegedly pushed, hit and threw the woman down before she was able to escape and drive to a nearby gas station to call the police, the report said.
Brayton also allegedly attacked the woman on June 17 at the Upper Plattin Road. The woman told a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy that Brayton woke up in a manic mood, punched her and threw her into a closet, the case’s probable-cause statement said.
Brayton told a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy that the woman would not allow him to take his medication, and she had crowded him, forcing him to push her back, the report said.
Brayton and the woman both had cuts on their faces and necks, but they refused medical treatment, according to the report.
