The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged a Cedar Hill business owner with second-degree sodomy, court papers show.

Narinder K. Gupta, 63, of St. Charles was charged with the class D felony on July 15. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to arrest him Monday (July 19) at his business, Discount Tobacco Cedar Hill at 8203 Center Drive, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.

Bissell said the Sheriff’s Office received a tip late in the morning that Gupta was at the business, which is between Mall Drive and Hwy. 30, but Gupta was not at the store.

Deputies were still searching for Gupta today (July 20), Bissell said.

Gupta allegedly had inappropriate contact with a teenage boy on April 22 when the two were traveling in a vehicle together in Jefferson County, a probable-cause statement said.

The alleged victim told investigators the incident happened when the two were traveling on Hwy. 61 near I-55. The statement does not specify what city the vehicle was closest to when the alleged inappropriate contact occurred.

Gupta is 5-foot-4 and weighs 178 pounds. He has gray hair and brown eyes, the report said.

He allegedly has made plans to leave the country in the past, and he is under investigation by the Department of Justice’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force, the probable-cause statement said.

Bissell said anyone who knows where Gupta is should call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.

A class D felony is punishable by up to seven years in prison.
