Pevely Police patch

Pevely Police are investigating the theft of a catalytic converter from one of the city’s Street Department dump trucks. The damage was estimated at $4,000, police reported.

The theft happened between Feb. 6 and Feb. 8 at the Street Department building, which is part of a gated compound of Pevely Public Works buildings off Lynwood Drive in the southwestern part of the city, the report said.

At about 9 a.m. Feb. 8, Street Department personnel discovered a 2019 Dodge Ram dump truck was not running properly. Upon further inspection, the employees learned the vehicle’s catalytic converter had been “cut from the mainline.” The dump truck had last been known to run OK at about 4:30 p.m. Feb. 6, according to the report.

Video surveillance reportedly shows a man in the fenced-in area during the period the catalytic converter was stolen. The man was wearing black gloves and white tennis shoes, and he was carrying a black gym bag and wearing a work light on his head, the report said.

As of Monday (Feb. 15), the investigation was ongoing, and anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Pevely Police at 636-475-5301.
