The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is seeking five men suspected of stealing a car and rummaging through other vehicles outside the Gravois Ridge Townhome Apartments in unincorporated Fenton. The men also allegedly abandoned a stolen car at the complex, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
At about 12:30 a.m. May 30, the Sheriff’s Office received a report that men were inside a gray 2014 Hyundai Elantra that was traveling through the apartment complex with no headlights on. Deputies found the car abandoned on Stone Bluff Drive in the complex, the report said
The man who owned the abandoned car previously had contacted Crestwood Police and said it was stolen from outside a home in St. Louis, where he was house sitting. The car also reportedly was connected to an incident near Allen Road in St. Louis County where people inside the car allegedly shot at another car that had been following them, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Video surveillance from the Fenton-area apartment complex reportedly showed the suspects driving around the area at 12:33 a.m. before the 2014 Elantra was abandoned there. It also allegedly showed the five men leave in a 2016 Hyundai Elantra that was stolen from the 1200 block of Stone Bluff Court, the report said.
About three hours later the 2016 Elantra was found abandoned near Hall Street in St. Louis, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
As of May 30, the five men have not been arrested, and the Sheriff’s Office was not releasing information about the possible suspects because the investigation was ongoing, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
