A 2011 Toyota Camry was stolen overnight June 5 from the commuter parking lot off Weier Road at I-55 in Pevely and later was involved in an accident in the city of St. Louis.
A 21-year-old Festus man parked the car, which belonged to his 44-year-old father, at the lot at 8:35 p.m. and left with friends. When he returned at 8:20 a.m., the car was gone and he found broken glass where it had been parked.
“The young man did everything right,” said Pevely Police Chief Ron Weeks. “He locked the car and had the keys with him.”
Late Monday (June 8), Pevely Police were notified that the car had been in the accident over the weekend and had been towed to an impound lot in St. Louis.
As of Tuesday morning (June 9), Weeks did not have a description of the damage. The owner was notified that the car had been found. In the initial report, he valued the car at $14,000.
The commuter lot, near Hwy. Z and I-55, does not have video surveillance, Weeks said.
“We wish it did,” he said. “That’s the first one stolen from there in quite a while.”
Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call Pevely Police at 636-475-5301.
