The Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of a car from outside a home in the 1000 block of Cross Creek Drive in Imperial. A woman who lives near that home told deputies she saw two people steal that car after they tried to get inside her car, which was parked in her driveway, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reported.
The neighbor said the 2015 Kia Optima was stolen at about 2:35 a.m. Oct. 8. She said the theft happened after the suspect noticed her and ran away from her car and headed toward her neighbor's home, the report said.
After that, one of the people got into the neighbor’s Kia, and the other person drove away in a silver SUV, according to the report.
The suspect driving the Kia hit a light pole while quickly backing out of the driveway before speeding off. The car was last seen traveling south on Hwy. 61-67, the report said.
The Kia is worth $14,000, according to the report.
As of Oct. 19, the car had not been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said. Anyone with information about the incident should call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
