An 18-year-old Byrnes Mill woman died Nov. 23 after a car she was traveling in was struck by an SUV, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman as Annabelle Lynn Smith. The Highway Patrol, which no longer releases the names of occupants of vehicle crashes, reported at 11:08 p.m. a 2022 Kia Forte driven by a 21-year-old High Ridge man was attempting to turn onto Upper Byrnes Mill Road from eastbound Hwy. 30 in Byrnes Mill and failed to yield to a westbound 2023 Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 20-year-old Staunton, Ill. woman. The SUV struck the car and both vehicles traveled off the side of the roadway.

The 18-year-old Byrnes Mill woman was pronounced dead at the scene by North Jefferson County Ambulance District and she was taken by Edward Mortuary to St. Louis County Morgue. The driver of the Kia was seriously injured and taken by Big River Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County, the report said.

The driver of the Chevrolet received minor injuries and a passenger, a 20-year-old St. Louis man, was moderately injured. Both were taken to Mercy Hospital South, the report said.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged. The occupants of the Kia were wearing seat belts while the occupants of the Chevrolet were not, the report said.
