Johnnie Dean Mathis Jr., 49, of Herculaneum died in a tractor-trailer accident on Hwy. 67 in Farmington on July 3, officials said.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Mathis was driving a 2010 Kenworth T800 at 12:55 p.m. south on Hwy. 67 and north of Maple Street when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the left edge of the road and overturned. Mathis, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.

Mathis was taken by St. Francois County Ambulance District to Parkland Health Center where he was pronounced dead at 1:47 p.m. the report said. The vehicle was totaled.

The Highway Patrol no longer identifies victims of vehicle accidents. The St. Francois County Coroner’s Office identified the driver on Monday morning.
