A car was stolen from a garage at a home in the 4900 block of Ems Road north of Hillsboro after a garage-door opener left inside an unlocked pickup in the driveway was used to get into the garage. The 2015 Chevrolet Malibu had been left unlocked in the garage with the keys inside, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The stolen Malibu was valued at $17,000. The ignition and steering column on the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup parked in the driveway was damaged, the report said.

The theft occurred between about 10:30 p.m. Aug. 14 and 12:20 a.m. Aug. 15, when the victims discovered their garage door was open and the car was gone.

As of Aug. 25, the Malibu had not been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, spokesman Grant Bissell said. Anyone with information about the incident should call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
