A car struck a vacant building off Jeffco Boulevard.

This car struck a vacant building off Jeffco Boulevard that used to house an American Red Cross office.

A car ran off the right side of Jeffco Boulevard in Arnold on Tuesday morning (May 7), knocking over a fire hydrant and running into a vacant building that used to house an American Red Cross office. No one was injured in the accident, Arnold Police reported.

The building, 3874 Jeffco Blvd., was moderately damaged, but no gas lines were ruptured. The building must be inspected by fire inspectors and Arnold building inspectors before anyone would be allowed to re-enter the location building, Rock Community Fire Protection District spokesman Ron Harder said.

The accident happened at 5:51 a.m. Tuesday, when a 60-year-old Arnold woman was driving a 2008 Honda Accord north on Jeffco Boulevard and lost control of the car. The woman told officials the car malfunctioned before it went off the road. She was the only one in the car, the police report said.

Mike Siedler, manager at Public Water Supply District 1, said the hydrant was repaired by about 10 a.m. Tuesday. He said it typically costs $400 to $500 to reinstall a hydrant, which is designed to break away from the ground and be reused.

Siedler said no customers lost water service because of the hydrant being knocked off its base.

The vacant building housed the Red Cross office for about 25 years before it moved out about four years ago, property owner Larry Jones previously said.
