The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating how a 40-year-old Cadet man was shot while riding a motorcycle northbound on Hwy. 21 near De Soto. The man told investigators he was shot while passing a vehicle on the highway, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.
Authorities were called at about 12:55 a.m. Aug. 15 to the Fish’s Quick Stop gas station, 12973 Hwy. 21, in De Soto after the injured man rode his motorcycle there and spoke with an employee. De Soto Police responded to the gas station, but the man was gone, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
A gas station employee told police that she had given the man paper towels and water, but when she asked if he wanted to call 911, he allegedly said no and left, the report said.
A Sheriff’s Office detective went to an area hospital to ask if a man had been admitted with a gunshot wound. Hospital staff brought the detective to the man, according to the report.
The man told the detective that he was passing a slow-moving vehicle on Hwy. 21 near Britton Road south of De Soto when he heard a loud pop sound. He said he felt pressure in both of his arms and rode his motorcycle to the gas station, the report said.
The man said he then drove to a De Soto home, and a person there drove him to the hospital for treatment. It appeared a bullet went through the man’s right arm and then his left arm, according to the report.
The Sheriff’s Office was still investigating the incident on Monday, and investigators had not identified a person of interest or the vehicle the man said he was passing when he was shot, Bissell said.
“Our investigators are still hard at work on this case and are committed to uncovering all the facts about what happened that morning,” Bissell said.
