Brandy Koenig, 41, of Imperial died Monday, Sept. 18, from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning at her home in the 2500 block of Lombard Lane, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
A 10-year-old boy who also was in the home was transported to an area hospital as a precautionary measure, the Rock Community Fire Protection District reported.
Alyson Barton, spokeswoman for the fire district, said the woman was the boy’s mother. One of the boy’s family members was with him when he was transported to the hospital.
Barton said firefighters were called to the home at 4:26 p.m. Monday, and the first firetruck arrived at 4:36 p.m. Firefighters entered the home, and the house was ventilated by 6:12 p.m. Rock Fire cleared the scene at 7:30 p.m., Barton said.
The report did not say where the woman or boy were found in the home, she said.
Barton said investigators were still trying today, Sept. 19, to determine how carbon monoxide entered the home and where a leak may have occurred.
She said no carbon monoxide detectors were found in the home.
Barton also said the home’s heating system was not on, and it was not known if the house had a gas oven or other gas-operated appliances.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said Koenig’s death does not appear to be suspicious.
As of this afternoon, the Medical Examiner’s Office had not announced an official cause of death for the woman, authorities said.
