The Pear Tree Inn in Arnold was evacuated shortly after midnight this morning (July 9) because of a fire in a second-floor bathroom, the Rock Community Fire Protection District reported.

No one was injured, the fire district reported.

Rock Fire was called at 12:07 a.m. to the hotel at 1201 Drury Lane, and the building was being evacuated when firefighters arrived at what became a second-alarm fire, the district reported in a written statement.

Firefighters extinguished the fire shortly after arriving, and the blaze did not extend beyond the bathroom, which was in a guest’s room, Rock Fire spokeswoman Stephanie Jackson said.

Rock Fire borrowed a mobile ventilation unit from an Illinois fire district to help remove smoke from the building, and occupants were allowed to return to their rooms after Fire Marshal Jeff DeLapp deemed the building was safe, the report said.

Jackson said all firefighters left the hotel by 2:51 a.m.

The cause of the fire had not been determined as of this afternoon, according to report.

The Saline Valley, Antonia and Mehlville fire protection districts helped with the call. The Arnold Police Department and Rock Township Ambulance District also responded to the scene.
