A small fire in the basement of a home at 18 Windswept Drive between Arnold and Fenton is under investigation and homeowners have moved out until repairs can be made, said Fire Chief Bob Dunn of the Saline Valley Fire Protection District.
At 7:15 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 10), Saline Valley Fire received a call about the fire.
“The homeowners were outside on the patio and saw smoke in the basement,” Dunn said.
Firefighters arrived at the three-bedroom ranch at 7:21 p.m. and found a small fire in the corner of a workshop. The fire was extinguished by 7:30 p.m., Dunn said.
“The workshop was on fire and caused damage to the floor joist,” he said. “The entire house had smoke damage. The fire damage was confined to the basement.”
There was some electrical damage to the house, so the homeowners cannot live in the house, Dunn said.
“We had Ameren pull the meter,” he said. “They had a place to stay. Their insurance will cover it.”
There were no injuries in the incident.
Rock Community and Mehlville fire protection districts assisted with the call.
