A 59-year-old Barnhart man was arrested for allegedly pointing a rifle at another man in a parking lot west of Hillsboro. The victim said the Barnhart man accused him of denting his vehicle, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The incident occurred March 23 in a lot in the 6600 block of Hwy. 21. The victim said the Barnhart man pointed a black rifle with a large magazine at him. The victim also said the suspect had prepared to fire the rifle by putting a bullet in the chamber, the report said.

Deputies located the Barnhart man, who reportedly confirmed there had been a disturbance. However, the deputies did not recover a rifle, according to the report.

The Barnhart man was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, where he was booked and released pending the application for charges, the report said.

The Sheriff’s Office will seek a charge against the Barnhart man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for fourth-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
