A 27-year-old Barnhart man was arrested early this morning (May 26) for allegedly killing a Festus man and leaving him in a field in the 1500 block of East Marriott Street in Barnhart.
The victim has been identified as Zachary Tripp, 40. His body was found in the field at about 1 p.m. Monday (May 25), Higginbotham said.
The suspect was arrested at about 1 a.m. today in Barnhart, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Gary Higginbotham said.
The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was called in to investigate the apparent homicide Monday afternoon. Higginbotham is a member of the Major Case Squad.
Tripp’s body showed “obvious” signs of injuries, Higginbotham said.
He said the Major Case Squad is awaiting the Medical Examiner’s report to determine the cause of death.
The Major Case Squad is seeking charges against the suspect, Higginbotham said this afternoon.
