Eureka Police patch

A 34-year-old Ballwin man is facing charges of driving while intoxicated after a Eureka Police officer found him asleep in his car. At about 4:51 p.m. Aug. 28, an officer noticed a car parked in the exit at Kircher Park, 25 Williams Road, with the driver reclined in his seat and asleep, a report said.

The officer told the driver he could stop the car in the parking lot to sleep but couldn’t remain in the exit lane. The driver then made a right turn and headed south on Williams Road, where he ran a stop sign, drove over a concrete barrier and into a fence, the report said.

When the driver got out of the car, he appeared to stumble and fall and the officer noticed an odor of alcohol. The man failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the Eureka Police station where he took a breath test and had a .181 percent blood-alcohol content, the report said. The legal limit in Missouri is .08 percent.

The man was booked at the station, issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for DWI and released, Eureka Police Lt. David Wilson said.
