The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who allegedly tried to break into a home in the 6400 block of Hickory Circle in Imperial but fled after the victim shot at him.
Just before 4:15 p.m. May 4, the victim returned to his home and heard the sound of glass breaking in his basement, so he got a gun and went downstairs to investigate and allegedly saw a man trying to get into the house through a basement window, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The victim shot twice at the alleged intruder, but he ran away into a wooded area behind the house, the report said.
The victim said he didn’t think either shot struck the man, and deputies said they didn’t find any blood in the area, according to the report.
A police dog was brought to the scene to try to track the suspect, to no avail, the report said.
It looked like the culprit used a rock to break the window, causing about $400 in damage, according to the report.
The victim said the alleged intruder is a black man and was wearing black pants and a black shirt, the report said.
As of Wednesday (May 11), there were no suspects or arrests, said Maj. Ralph Brown of the Sheriff’s Office.
He urges anyone with information about the incident to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
