The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is looking for someone who reportedly tried to steal an SUV from garage at a home in the 1000 block of Schumacher Road in High Ridge but left it behind after crashing into a van in the driveway. Both the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the van sustained minor damage, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
At about 4:30 a.m. May 25, someone entered the home’s open garage and got into the unlocked Jeep, which had the keys inside. The culprit attempted to drive the Jeep away but collided with a white van in the driveway, and then the person ran away. The Sheriff’s Office report did not have an estimate for the damage to the SUV and van.
Other vehicles in the driveway were rummaged through, but nothing of “significant value” was reported stolen, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
As of June 1, a suspect had not been identified, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
