The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating damage done to wires that were cut from utility poles in the area of Cedar Hill and Burgess Ford roads in Cedar Hill. The wires belong to AT&T, authorities reported.
An AT&T representative contacted the Sheriff’s Office on March 5 after the company had received notices at about 5 a.m. that day of customers losing service. An AT&T employee went to the area and saw wires had been cut from utility poles, the report said.
No wire was reported stolen. However, AT&T estimated the cost to replace the damaged wires to be $2,000, according to the report.
As of March 6, no suspects had been identified, Capt. Matt Moore said.
“Telecommunications lines contain copper, a target for thieves,” he said. “The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office encourages citizens to report suspicious activity or persons who are or appear to be tampering with overhead telecommunications lines.”
