The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of AT&T cable from utility poles near the intersection of Old Hwy. 21 and Lisa Road in Barnhart. It was the latest in a string of similar thefts, authorities reported.
Internet and phone service outages were reported at about 9:30 a.m. Dec. 8 in Barnhart, and the next day, an AT&T employee discovered about 300 feet of cable had been cut and stolen from the utility poles, the report said.
Between Nov. 14 and Nov. 21, about 2,730 feet of cable had been stolen and five utilities boxes were damaged in the Hillsboro and Dittmer areas, the Sheriff’s Office reported..
As of Dec. 15, none of the cable had been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, spokesman Grant Bissell said. Anyone with information about the incident should call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
