Four people, including an Arnold pair, were hurt Sunday evening (July 8) in a two-car accident on Hwy. M at Moss Hollow Road in Barnhart, the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

At about 5:50 p.m., Mary L. Largent, 64, of Arnold was driving a 2012 Toyota Prius east on Hwy. M, and Teresa A. Shoemaker, 57, of Dixon, driving a 2006 Buick Lacrosse, was stopped in the left turn lane on westbound Hwy. M preparing to turn south onto Moss Hollow Road, and Dixon failed to yield to the oncoming Prius before making the turn and pulled into its path, the report said.

The front left of the Prius struck the front right of the Lacrosse. Then, the Prius ran off the right side of the road where the right side of the car and its undercarriage struck a rock embankment, according to the report.

Largent was seriously injured, and a passenger in the Prius – Dennis M. Largent, 62, of Arnold – sustained minor injuries.

Shoemaker also was seriously hurt, and a passenger in the Lacrosse -- Riley M. Jay, 9, of Callaway, Fla. – had minor injuries.

All four were transported by the Rock Township Ambulance District to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County, where the Largents and Shoemaker were listed in satisfactory condition on Monday (July 9), a hospital spokesman said.

Jay was transferred to a pediatric facility, the St. Anthony’s spokesman said.

All those involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.

Both vehicles were totaled, the report said.
