A 27-year-old Arnold woman recently was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after police were called to check on her well-being at the Burger King restaurant, 1652 Hwy. Z, in Pevely.
At about 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28, Pevely Police Officer Christy Penfield responded to the call to check on the woman who had spent a long time in the restaurant’s restroom, interim Police Chief Tony Moutray said.
“Penfield knocked on the stall door and a female asked, ‘What is going on?’” Moutray said. “Penfield identified herself and asked the female to exit the stall and speak with her.”
When the woman finally exited the stall, she had two purses.
“Penfield was granted permission to search both purses,” Moutray said.
During the search, the officer was nearly stuck by an uncapped, blood-tainted syringe found in one of the purses, he said. Also in the purse were several baggies containing a white powdery substance.
The woman was booked and released pending application for warrants. Depending on results from the drug analysis, Pevely Police will seek charges against her through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Moutray said.
