Two Arnold men, one 35 and one 28, recently were arrested in connection with a recent theft of checks from a home in the 1400 block of Scenic Drive just outside the Arnold city limits. The 28-year-old also was arrested on outstanding warrants, Arnold Police Detective Lt. James Jones said.

Around 3 p.m. April 6, Arnold Police got a call that the 35-year-old was at the Regions Bank, 180 Richardson Crossing, allegedly trying to cash one of the forged, stolen checks. The 28-year-old man reportedly was waiting for him nearby, at the Culver’s restaurant, Jones said.

He said the men burglarized the home on Scenic Drive in the unincorporated Arnold area twice.

After the first alleged burglary, the men reportedly took checks they had stolen from the house, forged them and tried to cash them in St. Louis County but were refused, so they broke into the home a second time, got more checks and went to Regions Bank in Arnold, trying again to cash checks, Jones said.

The 28-year-old reportedly knew the burglary victim’s son, Jones added.

In addition, the 28-year-old already was wanted in Jefferson County, Crystal City and St. Louis County on outstanding warrants for stealing and traffic violations, the report said.

The 35-year-old man was booked and released pending application for warrants, and the 28-year-old was booked and held for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, which will seek charges against both men for burglary, according to the report.

Arnold Police will seek charges against them for possession of stolen property and forgery. As of Thursday (April 20), no charges had been filed, Jones said.
