Allen J. Curtis, 37, of Arnold has pleaded guilty to a drug-trafficking charge in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. He also is facing a felony sexual abuse charge in Jefferson County, according to court records.
The federal drug-trafficking charge stems from two arrests in February 2019 in Arnold, and he is scheduled to be sentenced in that case on June 24. The recommended sentence is five years in prison, according to the plea deal.
He had been facing both drug-trafficking and weapons charges before the plea agreement, but the weapons charge was dropped, U.S. District Court records show.
Curtis was arrested Feb. 1, 2019, after an Arnold Police officer pulled him over at Hwy. 141 near I-55 in Arnold for alleged traffic violations and reportedly found two handguns, 3.5 grams of meth and $2,352 in cash in the pickup he was driving, the plea agreement said.
Curtis was arrested, booked and released pending application for warrants. Then, at 2:52 p.m. the next day, police were called to the 1800 block of Fox Pointe Drive in Arnold because Curtis allegedly was violating a protection order, the probable-cause statement in the case said.
Curtis was found standing near a Chrysler 300 when police arrived, and he initially told police he was unarmed, but officers searched him and found a handgun, along with $862 in cash. In addition, a motorcycle with a damaged ignition was found in the home’s garage, and officers determined it was stolen, the report said.
Officers reportedly found numerous clear plastic bags containing meth and syringes, as well as smoking pipes and another gun inside the garage. Curtis allegedly told police he knew the motorcycle was stolen and had accepted it as payment for a previous debt owed to him, and he said the items found in the garage belonged to him, the probable-cause statement said.
He also reportedly told officers he sold drugs and claimed to buy a couple of ounces of meth at time, spending about $2,000 per purchase, the plea agreement said.
While in the Jefferson County Jail, Curtis reportedly made several phone calls discussing the presence of drugs inside the Chrysler 300. When the car was searched, police allegedly found a total of 478 grams of meth divided into eight plastic bags, along with two digital scales and $9,413 in cash, according to the plea agreement.
In the Jefferson County Circuit Court Case, Curtis was charged April 4 with first-degree sexual abuse for allegedly inappropriately touching a child less than 14 years old. The charge is a class B felony punishable by five to 15 years in prison, court papers show.
The alleged incident occurred between Jan. 1, 2018, and Feb. 28, 2018, in Arnold. Curtis told investigators he did not touch the child. However, a woman said she witnessed the alleged abuse, the probable-cause statement in the case said.
On Tuesday (May 5), Curtis’s attorney, Mike Lowry, declined to comment about the charge.
A $30,000 cash-only bond has been set in the sexual abuse case, court records show.
