Robert Conrad Kane, 42, of Arnold has been charged with two felonies for allegedly used a cord from a vacuum cleaner to choke his girlfriend, according to court records.

Kane has been charged with first-degree domestic assault, a class B felony punishable by five to 15 years in prison, and second-degree domestic assault, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison, according to court documents.

He was being held today (Nov. 22) in Jefferson County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.

The alleged assault happened about 1:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at a home in the 2100 block of Park Drive, Arnold Police reported.

A 40-year-old Arnold woman said her boyfriend, who she lives with, choked her with a vacuum cleaner cord, causing her to lose consciousness, the probable-cause statement in the case said.

Kane and the woman reportedly had been drinking alcohol and started to argue. Then, Kane allegedly hit the woman several times and held her down on the floor before reaching for the cord that he tightened around the woman’s neck, the report said.

After the woman regained consciousness, she reportedly left the home and called 911. When police arrived at the home, they allegedly saw signs of a struggle. Dog food and water was spilled on the floor, and a vacuum was knocked over, according to the report.

In addition, Kane reportedly had a scrape on his right hand, and the woman had several noticeable injuries.

Kane allegedly told authorities he didn’t remember the fight because he had been drinking. He also told police he has a drinking problem, the report said.

According to the probable-cause statement, Kane had an alleged history of domestic violence. Kane was arrested Aug. 8 for fourth-degree domestic assault, and he was arrested Oct. 25 for third-degree domestic assault.
