A 62-year-old Arnold man was arrested after he turned himself in to police the day after he allegedly attacked a 40-year-old Imperial man in an apparent road-rage incident, Arnold Police reported.

At about 4:45 p.m. Sept. 28, the two men were driving south on I-55. The Imperial man, who was driving a 2021 Nissan Altima, told police the Arnold man, who was driving a 1997 Dodge 1500, swerved at him near the Butler Hill Road exit, the report said.

The Imperial man got off the interstate at Richardson Road, and the Arnold man followed him. When the two men came to the stop light, the Imperial man thought the Arnold man had hit his car, so he got out to inspect for damage, according to the report.

The Arnold man also got out of the pickup he was driving. He was holding a hammer and allegedly began striking the Imperial man, the report said.

The Imperial man got away from the Arnold man, drove away and called the police. The Imperial man was then transported to an area hospital to be treated, according to the report.

Officers were able to identify the Arnold man, but they were unable to located him after the alleged assault. The Arnold man turned himself in to police on Sept. 29, the report said.

Arnold Police will seek charges against the Arnold man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for second-degree assault and armed criminal action.
