A 30-year-old Arnold man was arrested after he allegedly was seen stealing a license plate from a pickup parked on Janet Drive and trying to put it on another pickup parked along that street. The second pickup, a 2017 GMC Sierra, previously had been reported stolen, Arnold Police reported.
Officers got a call at about 3:55 p.m. Oct. 4 about a man allegedly trying to put license plates on the Sierra parked on Janet Drive. The man allegedly had taken the license plate off another pickup parked outside a home on the same street, the report said.
When an officer arrived, the man was gone, but the Sierra was still parked on the street. The officer discovered the pickup belonged to Collins Custom Contracting of Labadie and had been reported stolen on Oct. 4 from a job site in Fairview Heights, Ill., according to the report.
Another officer spotted a man matching the suspect’s description walking on Susan Drive near Lonedell Road, which is not far from Janet Drive. The suspect was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants, the report said.
Det. Lt. Jeremy Christopher said Arnold Police will seek a first-degree tampering charge against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
