A 50-year-old Arnold man, arrested July 28 for allegedly driving while intoxicated in Arnold, was found to have at least two prior DWI convictions, Arnold Police reported.
At about 1 a.m. July 28, an officer saw a 2017 Ford F-350 exit the Arnold Crossroads Center shopping plaza and drive south on Jeffco Boulevard. The pickup allegedly stopped at a green light at the intersection of Jeffco Boulevard and Hwy 141 before the driver accelerated quickly, reaching up to 53 mph in a 40-mph zone, the report said.
The driver allegedly swerved and crossed the solid yellow line on Jeffco Boulevard and continue to travel with half the pickup in the southbound lane and the other in half in either a turn lane or northbound lane, according to the report.
The driver then allegedly slowed to about 16 mph when it approached the intersection of Jeffco Boulevard and Church Road before accelerating again to about 73 mph and then dropping speed again to about 26 mph, Arnold Police reported.
The officers turned on his vehicle’s lights and pulled the pickup over at about 1:35 a.m. on Jeffco Boulevard near Church Road. When the driver pulled off the road, he drove the pickup into a ditch, the report said.
The driver allegedly appeared intoxicated and told the officers he had drunk eight to 10 beers. The driver refused to take a field sobriety test or a breath test, according to the report.
The man was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where it was discovered he had been convicted of DWI offenses in 2000 in Jefferson County and 2009 in St. Charles County. He was booked and released, Arnold Police reported.
Arnold Police will seek charges against the man for DWI – persistent offender, speeding and failure to maintain a single lane through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Detective Lt. Jason Valentine said.
