silver coins

Collectible coins worth about $30,000 recently were stolen form a home in the 4800 block of Eva Rue in House Springs, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Between 6:51 p.m. April 10 and 1:30 p.m. April 12, while the victim was out of state, someone partially removed a door on a safe and stole coins from out of it, the report said.

The victim has a tenant living in the basement who may have let others in the home while the victim was away, according to the report.

Deputies found a broken screw driver, a crow bar and a large piece of rebar lying near the safe. In addition, a credit card that belongs to someone the victim doesn’t know was found at the scene. All those items were seized as evidence, the report said.

A neighbor told deputies he heard a loud noise, like something striking metal, and saw curtains moving at the home on April 11, according to the report.

As of April 16, the coins had not been recovered, and there were no arrests, said Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Sheriff’s Office.

He asks anyone with information about the theft to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
