Ashley Tindle, a Windsor High student in the Jefferson College culinary arts program, demonstrates candy making during the annual Leader Holiday Dinner held Dec. 13 in Hillsboro.

The deadline is approaching for readers to cast their ballots for a winner of the annual Leader Holiday Recipe Contest.

Five category winners each received $50, and votes in the Readers Choice poll will determine who wins the overall grand prize and an additional $50.

The deadline for ballots is 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, and the results will be published in the Dec. 17 issue of the paper.

The five category winners are:

Appetizer: Reconstructed Deviled Eggs

Soup: Kaysie’s Favorite Soup

Salad: Half Moon Bay Slaw

Side dish: Bacon Brussel Sprouts

Dessert: Bourbon Eggnog Cookies

There are several ways to vote:

■ By mailing the ballot at right to Leader Holiday Recipe Poll, P.O. Box 159, Festus, 63028.

■ By dropping off a ballot at 503 N. Second St. in Festus (drop-off box is outside as the office is closed).
