Brian D. Miller has been appointed interim U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

Harrisburg, Pa. — Brian D. Miller, former Inspector General for Pandemic Recovery, has been appointed U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Pa., effective Oct. 27. Miller was appointed by order of U.S. Attorney General Pamela "Pam" Bondi.

The interim appointment is for 120 days, or until a Presidential appointment is made, whichever occurs first.

In September, President Trump nominated Miller to be the Middle District of Pa.'s U.S. Attorney, and his nomination is awaiting the Senate confirmation process.

Previously, Miller was confirmed by the Senate to be the Special Inspector General for Pandemic Recovery on June 2, 2020. Other prior positions include Senior Associate White House Counsel; Inspector General of the U.S. General Services Administration (confirmed by the Senate on July 22, 2025); Senior Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General; Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Va.; Special Counsel on Health Care Fraud for the Deputy Attorney General; and Counsel to the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Va.

Miller has also served as Acting General Counsel of the Department of Housing and Urban Development this year.

As a federal prosecutor, Miller litigated civil and criminal cases in multiple federal district and appellate courts. Cases included terrorism and terrorist financing; drug-related conspiracies and murder; and the False Claims Act.

As an inspector general, Miller is especially known for his investigation of a lavish General Services Administration conference in Las Vegas.

Miller has received the Attorney General's Distinguished Service Award, the EOUSA Director's Award for Superior Performance as an AUSA, and the David M. Walker Excellence in Government Performance and Accountability Award, which honors government audit professionals who have made sustained contributions to improve government performance and accountability.

Miller replaces former Acting U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus, who is now serving as First Assistant U.S. Attorney within the office.

A resident of the Middle District of Pa., Miller earned his bachelor's degree from Temple University and his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law.
