The right lane on westbound I-44 between I-270 and Bowles Avenue will close at 7 p.m. Monday (Oct. 1) and remain closed for three years while crews replace the Meramec River Bridge, the Missouri Department of Transportation announced.
When traveling west on I-44, the lane closure will start just east of the I-270 ramp near the Geyer Road overpass and continue to Bowles Avenue.
During the construction, lanes on I-44 will shift, but drivers will still be able to access the interstate from Watson Road (Hwy. 366), as well as from northbound and southbound I-270. Drivers also will be able to access the Soccer Park exit from westbound I-44 during the project.
MoDOT said drivers should expect greater congestion, especially during evening rush hour.
The three-year project replaces the westbound and eastbound I-44 bridges over the Meramec River, makes improvements to the ramps between I-270 and I-44, and replaces the bridge from eastbound I-44 to eastbound Watson Road, as well as the bridge from westbound Watson Road to westbound I-44.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $51.1 million contract to KCI Construction in June for the bridge work.
