Lane closures are expected over the next three months along Hwy. Y, which runs between highways 21 and 30 in southern Jefferson County, so culverts can be replaced and the road repaved.
At times, there will be complete road closures, Missouri Department of Transportation officials reported.
Work is scheduled to begin Monday, April 6, and be completed in July.
“There are about 50 culverts we’ll be replacing,” said Judy Wagner, MoDOT area engineer. “But, there are so many roads out there for detours. One detour is taking Hwy. B to Hwy. C.”
N.B. West Contracting Co. in St. Louis County was awarded a $3.6 million contract to replace the culverts along the 14-mile road and resurface it.
Work is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays during the project, MoDOT officials said.
Motorists can expect one-lane travel on the two-lane Hwy. Y in some locations with flaggers directing traffic through work zones, officials said.
In addition, both lanes will be closed to traffic in various work zones, beginning April 9 between Hwy. 21 and Whippoorwill Drive.
A map of the daily closure locations will be posted on the MoDOT website at www.modot.org/stlouis/major_projects/RouteYCulvertProject.htm.
